Halloween

Last night I finished up Kailey's Halloween costume. She wants to be a princess. Rita and I had started the costume this summer as a "trial" flower girl dress for Steph's wedding, but ended up buying the flower girl dresses.

So here is how it went. Sunday 6:00 pm, dig out sewing machine, supplies and look for pattern directions which were no where to be found! I think they had legs and walked to where I finally found them. Work for 1 -1/2 hours cutting, lining, and sewing shirt part of dress only to find out that Rita and I had finished this step this summer. I was very upset with myself. The good news is my shirt part was the same as hers, but mine was a little longer and wider. This will work great for her to wear something under it. The whole time I worked on, I thought about all the costumes my mom and I have sewn in the past. All my thoughts were on her that night and even shed a couple tears too as I struggled on alone. Kailey tried to help, but she is too little yet. Last night went a little quicker, as the end was in sight. It has a few quirks, but she loves it. I did not sew a sash, but I found a quick solution. Lets hope it looks just as good! I now have a new costume to add to the kids' "collection." I have a couple totes full of fun homemade costumes. All made with love and a special purpose. Brayden is actually wearing one of the ones my mom and I made for Zach. He is very excited. When I took out that tote box, his eyes shown with the excitement he had!! Zach is "too old" to dress up. Although, when we were in JoAnn Fabrics on Saturday he found a mask that was pretty cool to him! I may surprise him with it later this week.

Halloween will be difficult for our family, even though we may not admit it. My mom loved Halloween and it is very hard to celebrate without her. She loved decorating, sewing costumes, making the cool little cakes seen in magazines and yummy soup, waiting by the door for all the grandkids to show up, counting how many "trick-or-treaters" they had at their door. For all the family, she will be doing it all this year just from Heaven. And she won't miss anything :)

Look for the Halloween Pictures this weekend. Happy Halloween!

Lots of fun memories of Halloween's past. Some of those costumes mom made looked pretty professional. Glad you got the "princess" costume done. Can't wait to see the kids in costume on Friday!
